DEVULAPALLI UMA ___ A Ph.D in Kuchipudi from Telugu University Devulapalli Uma trained with Vedantam Sambayya followed by Vempati Kodanda Ramayya (Son of Vempati Venkata Narayana, one of the Kuchipudi trio). She further learned Bharathanatyam under V. S. Ramamurthy and Kuchipudi under Sobha Naidu and later, underwent special training under Vempati China Satyam. She received Senior Research Fellowship for the topic ‘Harikathas of Sri Ajjada Aadibhatla Narayana Dasu and Their Suitability to Kuchipudi Dance Drama’. She is a Graded artist in Doordarshan in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. She runs her institute Srimukha Kuchipudi Natyalaya since 2006 and has been training students online and offline. She has performed widely. ___ Can two art forms come together to form one? Tough isn’t it? It happened. Here we are talking about two great Indian classical art forms – Harikatha and Kuchipudi.
