**My Guru Ojha Amubi Singh - Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan**
**DR. KAPILA VATSYAYAN** **DR. KAPILA VATSYAYAN** is an internationally renowned scholar, an authority on Indian Classical and Folk Dance Traditions. Author of several books on Indian Arts, Kapila ji has done yeoman service to the cause of Indian Performing Arts with her path-breaking interdisciplinary approach. Her book on Classical Indian Dance has set very high standards of scholarship. She is singularly responsible for envisioning and shaping the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, New Delhi. This article was originally published in Sangeer Natak, April-June, 1983 and is reprinted here with the permission of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. The name of Guru Amubi Singh, the grand old man of Manipuri, brings a number of images to one's mind. These images are connected with the cultural history of India, during the last 80 years ; his life and work provide the milestone covered by Indian arts, particularly dance in this century.
