Vector Calculus - A Companion Volume

The electromagnetic theory makes a heavy use of vector calculus. This book is a companion volume of the series on ’Electromagnetic Theory for Newbies’.

It covers the basics of vector calculus that are required as prerequisites for that series. The details of the topics covered can be seen in the table of contents. This book is not a textbook on vector calculus and the coverage of many topics, found in popular textbooks, is beyond the scope of this book.

The emphasis in this companion volume is on the statements of definitions, theorems etc. and on illustrating them and explaining them through examples. The focus of this book is on preparing the user for applications to electromagnetic theory. Almost all proofs are omitted. Only a small number of practice problems are included.

I grateful to Pankaj Sharan, Harikumar and Ranjan Shrivastava for their discussions and their critical remarks during the preparation of this book. R. Bhagya and Harsha Sreekumar have read through the manuscript carefully. I thank them for their detailed and valuable feedback.
